The hunt: The day’s result for a ptarmigan hunter can be anywhere between 5 - 25 birds per day per hunter. This depends of course on the shooting ability of each hunter, but weather will certainly also influence the result. When hunting in brush cover we usually hunt with dogs. |

Food & Accommodations: Accommodations during the hunt are in warm and comfortable lodges. All modern amenities such as hot water, showers, toilets, etc. Usually the guide or his assistant will do the cooking at the lodge. We will try to fulfill personal wishes of the hunters in regards to menu. When possible we will of course cook wild game of the season.

What to bring: 3-Shot Semi-auto, Pump or O/U Shotguns in 12 gauge. Warm, waterproof and windproof outer clothing, warm underwear and preferably Gore-Tex hiking boots. Temperatures can vary from 5° - 41° F, but generally the temperature is 23° to 41° F. Upon booking we supply a detailed packing list.

NOTE: Standard ptarmigan hunting program consists of 6 days, thereof 3 days of hunting. We allow 1 day for foul weather. If the weather is good, you will get in 4 days of hunting for the same price. For best results we suggest a hunting group with 2-4 hunters. However, itinerary can be tailored to special wishes if booking availability allows. |

Included: Icelandic hunting license, weapon license, all transportation in Iceland,one professional guide and a 4 x 4 vehicle / boat for every two or three hunters, all equipment necessary during the hunt, except clothing and firearmsand full board and lodging from arrival until departure.
Not included: preparation and shipment of ptarmigan for taxidermy according to customer wishes, ammunition if shotguns are provided by the outfitter, alcoholic beverages, extra days in Reykjavik and international flights. Excess baggage charges on domestic flights. |

Day 1: You will arrive in the afternoon at Keflavik International Airport where you will be met by the outfitter. The outfitter will clear your weapons through customs and then transfer you to Reykjavik domestic airport. After a one hour flight you will land at Egilsstadir, a small town on the east coast of Iceland. There your guide will be waiting for you with a comfortable 4WD vehicle.

Day 2: We wake up before sunrise for a heavy breakfast. During the early morning light we head for the hunt area. The area where we hunt will depend on the amount of snow in the area. Sometimes we will be hunting in a area with brush cover, or if snow is scarce, we might head up into the mountains where the ground is very barren.

Day 6: Transfer from the Reykjavik hotel to Keflavik International Airport, to your final destination, a safe return to your home after a successful hunt in the Icelandic wilderness. |

Bringing back your trophy: Your ptarmigan will be prepared for your taxidermist at the end of the trip to bring back home when you depart Iceland. We will supply you with all of the documentation from the Icelandic Government for safe importation into the US or your home Country. We can also have it shipped to your taxidermist if you wish at an extra fee but recommend you take them back with you as luggage.

Documents: We need a copy of your local weapon and hunting license4 - 5 weeks prior to your scheduled arrival. We also need a document proofing that you are the legal owner of the gun / guns you intend to bring with you to Iceland. We need these documents in good time in order to obtain a weapon license and a hunting license for you in Iceland.

Baggage: Try and keep your baggage weight limit to 60-70 pounds to avoid any excess baggage charges on domestic flights in Iceland.
